Newsletter No.2 February & March 2010
Just thought I would bring you up to date with what is going on at the moment, well to begin with, lets cover the Annual General Meeting (to be known as AGM hereafter) the AGM was held on the 19th March and was very well attended by members and the same committee was again, voted in, so thanks to all who voted on the night (hopefully, we must be doing something right).
As explained at the AGM, the committee met with Places for People on Friday 12thMar, Places for People explained that they have at the moment abandoned 7 sites for infill but this still means another 8 sites remain that they have their sights set on, but I can assure you we will only go down fighting tooth and nail against this. The vote by attending members was overwhelmingly in favour of the committee not giving up the fight. PfP informed the committee that the Allotments are in the final stages (Legally, that is) of being leased to the Residents Association, also, that they would be re-erecting a fence and sorting out the tree situation for us. Also at this meeting with PfP they informed the committee that the fencing around the estate would no longer be the responsibility of tenants but would be repaired/replaced by PfP at a cost of approx £30,000, this being another argument the committee took up on your behalf and thankfully, Won!!!!.
We understand a number of Owner Residents are unhappy with the so-called maintenance charge imposed on you and assure you that we have, at every opportunity, brought this matter to the forefront, assisted and backed by Mr. Nick GIBB (MP), but we have been firmly and politely told that this is a matter between the home-owner and PfP, in short, “It is none of our business.”
The “WILLOWS” Tea/Coffee morning has got off to a marvellous start, we have held two sessions so far and they have both, been well attended (each session attended by approximately 50 people) Chess has been featured by Mr William Partridge and his friends, so on behalf of us all “Thanks Bill & pals”. Games have been played and other visitors have got into conversations and have discovered that they all seem to live near to each other without realising it, therefore and hopefully friendships are being formed and this may not have happened had they not come in for a free cup of tea etc. So do, please try to come (especially as the weather is improving) you will probably enjoy yourselves, I know, we, on the committee, would hate this social morning to collapse, because to be honest with you, we love the idea of meeting you, talking to you and best of all, getting to know you.
OTHER NEWS
Due to constant badgering from the WFRA committee members, West Sussex County Council-Highway Dept. have finally relented and have been in touch with Mr. John Bass (by letter) to inform and confirm to him that they will be repairing the road at Halnaker/Tangmere Gardens at some point, this year at a cost of £27,000, so, those of you, that use these roads, keep an eye out for any news regarding closures of said roads as you do not wish to be hemmed in, because the area will be closed to traffic for a few days.
BE ON YOUR GUARD!!!! There has been a few incidences of cars being broken into, so, please, be on your guard, do not leave items on view in your vehicle. It is really interesting to note that this is happening, even before PfP have added all the extra unprotected parking spaces,” their idea of doing us a favour”, but, does this not prove beyond any reasonable doubt that the garages should remain as they are.??????
ALSO!!!! Be on the lookout. The WFRA committee has been informed that a house has been targeted and burgled, hopefully, this is or was, a one off, but we would ask you not to leave possessions that can be seen, as an example, through a letterbox or a window etc.
Footnotes:......The next Tea/Coffee morning will be held at the Aldwick Parish Council Hall on Friday 9th April at the usual time of 10am and is open to all (no charge for refreshments) until 12 noon and will be held every other Friday right up to end of December 2010.
The Spring Fayre is to be held at the Community Hall on Saturday, the 22nd May, commencing at 1pm through to 4pm, the reason I am reminding you is, that, as usual, we are having to ask you to rummage through your belongings to see if there is anything that you would be kind enough to donate to our cause......THANK YOU.
AND FINALLY...Should you have a neighbour that is not happy with Places for People's and their plans for this estate and maybe isn't a member of our Resident's Association try and persuade them to join us, after all the stronger we are, the better our chances of beating them.
